Road-legal, zero-emission utility vehicles for UK sites, fleets and depots

Electric Utility Vehicles from GOUPiL

A GOUPiL electric utility vehicle gives your site a road-legal, zero-emission workhorse that moves people, tools and loads without the fuel bill, the noise or the exhaust. Forktruck Solutions supplies, hires and services the full range of GOUPiL electric vehicles across the UK – the compact G2, the load-carrying G4 and the three-seat G6 – so you can match the right utility vehicle to the job rather than compromise on a converted van or a petrol buggy.

Since GOUPiL joined the Polaris Group in 2011 the range has grown into one of the most configurable in the sector, with body options covering tipper, cage, van, chassis cab, pressure washer and refuse conversions. Every model is fully electric, homologated for road use and supported by our own directly employed service engineers.

What is a utility vehicle?

A utility vehicle is a compact, purpose-built work vehicle designed to carry people, tools and loads around a defined site – a campus, depot, warehouse estate, town centre, park or industrial park – and, where it is road-homologated, on the public highway between them.

Unlike a van, a utility vehicle is built around the load bed rather than the cab. It is narrower, turns tighter and is designed to be fitted with a body that matches the task: a tipper for grounds maintenance, a cage for waste collection, a box van for stores and parts, or a chassis cab for a bespoke conversion.

Electric utility vehicles take that a step further. With no engine, no gearbox and no exhaust, they run indoors and out, start instantly in cold weather, need far less routine maintenance and cost a fraction of a diesel equivalent to run. That combination is why they have largely replaced petrol and diesel buggies in local authority, university, hospital, airport, logistics and manufacturing fleets.

The GOUPiL electric vehicle range

Three GOUPiL electric vehicles, each built for a different job. Compare the G2, G4 and G6 below, then talk to us about the body, battery and options that suit your round.

GOUPiL G2

A modern design, a smooth drive and easy to use, the G2 is the perfect partner for your short trips. Homologated for road use and able to carry up to 600 kg, its versatility will become essential for your day to day use.

Perfectly suspended on McPherson suspensions and mounted with 14 inch wheels, the G2 is at ease on all terrains. Its aluminium cabin associated with a tubular iron platform gives it lightness and a unique resistance for this type of vehicle. You will appreciate its ultra-compact size (1.1m wide) which allows access to the narrowest roads. Equipped with 3-points seat belts and double circuit braking system, the G2 make you feel safe under any circumstances.

Getting in and out of a vehicle has never been that easy as with a G2. Its large openings and space on board make the shortest trip easy. User friendly, the modularity of the equipment at the back, the efficiency of the comfort equipments are all good reasons to move on to the Goupil G2.

GOUPiL G4

Are you looking for a compact utility vehicle 100% electric, robust and competitive? The Goupil G4 will appeal to you by its capacity to adapt to your business. The many configurations combined with the professional onboard equipment have made the G4 the reference in its category.

The G4 is designed with an ultra-robust steel chassis on which rests an aluminium cabin, the batteries are positioned in the middle. This structure associated with the propulsion choice gives a residual payload of over a ton and a traction capacity of more than 1t4 on road, with no equivalent on the actual compact electric market. Equipped with McPherson suspensions at the front and with composite blades at the back, a double circuit brake system, the G4 benefits from the Polaris experience in road holding to deliver a safe drive.

Does your job need you to frequently get in and out of your vehicle? Take place in the G4 and appreciate the seat height, the cabin space and the lighting. The silence, absence of vibrations combined with the comfort equipments (assisted steering, heating, air conditioning, rear view camera) allow you to do your days work with a minimum of fatigue.

GOUPiL G6

The G6 is a game changer for Goupil: while staying true to the brand’s DNA, this 100 % electric utility vehicle offers unprecedented possibilities. With a spacious 3-seater cab, a modern design with a competitive edge as well as unique equipment, the G6 will surely become your new business partner.

From the steel chassis to the drive trains, not forgetting the cabin structure, the G6 has been designed to offer a utility vehicle that is comfortable, safe and robust. Opting for a cabin floor design with front wheel drive gives extensive flexibility to bodybuilders and ensures safe roadholding at all times.

Enjoy an unprecedented level of comfort in a Goupil vehicle! As a true business partner, the G6 offers a great driving experience while fulfilling its core mission: efficiently support the user in his daily work. The specific features control panel can easily be accessed from the driver’s seat (lifting/lowering the load bed, activate the beacon lights, triflash hazard warning triangle…) as well as the different security and comfort settings (heater, rear camera…)

Where electric utility vehicles are used

  • Local authorities and highways – street cleansing, grounds maintenance, gully and sign crews, and town-centre access where diesel is restricted.
  • Universities, schools and hospitals – campus post, stores, estates and maintenance rounds on sites where pedestrians and vehicles share space.
  • Warehousing and logistics – yard moves, inter-building transfers, and parts and consumables runs across large estates.
  • Manufacturing – moving tooling, components and waste between production halls, indoors and out, without exhaust fumes.
  • Airports, ports and rail – airside and landside support, baggage and equipment moves, and quiet operation near passengers.
  • Facilities management and housing – multi-site maintenance rounds where the vehicle spends its day stopping and starting.
  • Parks, golf and leisure – grounds equipment, green waste and course maintenance on soft or shared surfaces.

Why choose an electric utility vehicle?

Running costs. Charging a utility vehicle overnight on a standard supply costs a small fraction of the diesel it replaces, and with no engine oil, filters, cambelt, clutch or exhaust, the scheduled maintenance bill falls with it.

Clean air zones. Zero tailpipe emissions mean no ULEZ or Clean Air Zone charge, and no compliance headache when a scheme expands or a new one is introduced.

Working indoors and out. No exhaust means the same vehicle can run inside a warehouse or production hall and then drive out onto the public road, which a diesel simply cannot do.

Noise. Near-silent operation matters on a hospital site at 6am, on a residential refuse round, or anywhere a noise-at-work assessment is in play.

Access. A narrow footprint and a tight turning circle get the vehicle to the work, instead of parking it nearby and carrying the load the rest of the way.

Driver comfort. No vibration, no fumes, plus assisted steering, heating and a reversing camera – the things that matter on a shift with a hundred stops.

Charging, batteries and running costs

Every GOUPiL charges from a standard single-phase supply through an on-board charger, so most fleets need no special infrastructure to get started – a socket in the compound is usually enough.

Two battery technologies are offered. Lead-acid is the lower up-front cost and suits shorter, predictable rounds; on a G2 that is around 5.8 kWh and roughly 27 miles between charges, with a typical overnight charge of about six hours. Lithium-ion costs more initially but delivers roughly double the range – around 7.5 kWh and 54 miles on a G2, and up to 90-plus miles on a G4 – along with opportunity charging, longer service life and no maintenance watering.

The right choice comes down to duty cycle. If the vehicle does a fixed round and sits on charge all night, lead-acid is often the better commercial answer. If it runs two shifts, covers distance between sites, or you want the longest possible service life, lithium usually wins over the life of the vehicle. We will model both against your actual mileage before you commit.

Hire, finance and servicing for your utility vehicle

A utility vehicle does not have to be a capital purchase. Forktruck Solutions offers outright sale, contract hire, lease and short-term hire across the range of GOUPiL electric vehicles, so the vehicle can sit on whichever budget line suits you. See our hire and leasing options.

Whichever route you take, the vehicle is supported by our own engineers. Planned maintenance, breakdown cover, parts and statutory inspection are handled in-house rather than subcontracted. See servicing and repairs.

If your site also runs counterbalance, reach or warehouse equipment, we can put your GOUPiL electric vehicles on the same service contract and the same telematics platform as the rest of the fleet. Explore our forklift trucks or find out about fleet telematics.

Utility vehicle FAQs

An electric utility vehicle is used to move people, tools, materials and waste around a site and, where it is road-homologated, between sites on the public highway. Typical jobs include grounds maintenance, street cleansing, refuse and recycling rounds, campus post and stores, parts runs across a large estate, and facilities maintenance. Because it produces no exhaust emissions, the same vehicle can work inside a warehouse or production hall and then drive out onto the road.

Yes. The GOUPiL range is homologated to European category L7e (heavy quadricycle), which makes the vehicles fully road legal in the UK. They are supplied with headlights, indicators, brake and reversing lights, hazard warning lights, a rear fog light, seat belts and a lit number plate bracket, and they are registered, taxed and insured like any other road vehicle.

A standard UK category B car driving licence is sufficient to drive an L7e-homologated GOUPiL on the road. No HGV or specialist entitlement is needed. Employers should still provide site-specific familiarisation and, where the vehicle is fitted with a tipping body, lifting equipment or a bin lift, training on that equipment.

Range depends on the model, the battery and the duty cycle. A GOUPiL G2 covers roughly 27 miles on lead-acid batteries and around 54 miles on lithium-ion. A G4 typically covers between about 51 and 93 miles depending on battery specification. Heavy payloads, hills, cold weather and frequent stop-start work all reduce real-world range, so we size the battery against your actual round rather than the headline figure.

Every GOUPiL has an on-board single-phase charger and plugs into a standard domestic or commercial socket, so most operators need no dedicated charging infrastructure. A lead-acid G2 takes around six hours to charge and a lithium G2 around nine and a half, which means both charge comfortably overnight. Lithium batteries can also be opportunity-charged during breaks without damaging the pack.

The G2 is the compact model at 1.1 metres wide, built for tight access and payloads up to around 600 kg. The G4 is the load carrier, with a payload exceeding a tonne on some configurations, towing capacity of about 1.4 tonnes and the widest choice of bodies. The G6 is the newest model and the only one with a three-seat cab, so a crew of three and their equipment travel in a single vehicle.

GOUPiL utility vehicles are limited to approximately 31 mph (50 km/h), which is typical for an L7e heavy quadricycle. That is well suited to site work, urban rounds and links between nearby sites, but it means they are not intended for motorway or long-distance trunk-road use.

No. Because they produce zero tailpipe emissions, electric utility vehicles are not liable for ULEZ or Clean Air Zone charges anywhere in the UK. For fleets operating in or through charged zones this is often the single largest line in the cost comparison against a diesel equivalent.

In most cases, yes. Energy cost per mile is typically a fraction of diesel, there is no ULEZ or Clean Air Zone liability, and servicing is far simpler with no oil, filters, cambelt, clutch or exhaust to replace. The trade-off is range and top speed, so a utility vehicle makes most sense for defined, local, stop-start duty cycles rather than long-distance work. We are happy to run a cost-per-mile comparison against your existing vehicle.

Yes. Forktruck Solutions offers short-term hire, long-term hire, contract hire and lease options on the GOUPiL range alongside outright purchase, and all of them can include servicing and breakdown cover. Short-term hire is a straightforward way to trial an electric utility vehicle on your own round before committing to a fleet decision.

Forktruck Solutions services the GOUPiL range with its own directly employed engineers, covering planned maintenance, repairs, battery support and parts. We can put utility vehicles on the same service contract as your forklift fleet so the whole site is covered by one agreement and one point of contact.
